They celebrate like no other so on 11 May, the Association of Golden Australian Pilipinos Inc (AGAPI) dished out a triple treat – Mother’s Day, Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan – in one go, filling the Rooty Hill School of Arts with colour, couture and culture.
The ladies swirled around the floor in their colourful gowns while the gentlemen looked dapper in barong and in dark suits.
Maria Singh won the title ‘AGAPI Mother of the Year’, with runners-up Cora Resurrecion (Justice), Faith Montecillo (Love), Araceli Johnston (Charity), and Patricia Germi (Hope).
A procession reminiscent of the Santacruzan and the Flores de Mayo paid respect to Filipino traditional practices during the month of May.
Well wishes, hugs and a joint cake greeted birthday celebrants AGAPI Elder Minerva Paguyo and Elaine Liddle.AGAPI comprises individuals over 55-years old promoting the interests, welfare and well-being of Filipino-Australian seniors in Western Sydney.
