Clarence Magpantay was born in Manila but was raised in the Mississauga, a city in the Greater Toronto area in Canada. He is currently taking up a Masters Degree in Human Geography at the York University in Toronto.
For his Masteral Thesis entitled: " The Call to the Filipino Diaspora: Local Development Through Transnational Process,” Clarence immersed himself at the Couples for Christ-Ancop Tambuli Village in Villa Leonora, Buguey, Cagayan in northern Luzon, to interview the village residents.
For two weeks, Clarence lived with the ANCOP families. He ate with the residents, and shared their joys, their laughter, their unselfish attitude and their generosity. He ate whatever was offered to him. He had his own room at the ANCOP administration office, but his needs were provided by CFC and the beneficiaries.
His two-week stay with ANCOP village residents gave him a first-hand experience as to how it was to live without the comforts of life he was used to in Canada. He went fishing with the men of the families and learned the art of oyster shocking. He experienced what is referred to by Ilocanos as “agsulib ti tirem.” Before living in Buguey, Cagayan, Clarence also lived at the ANCOP site in Paniqui, Tarlac. This was another eye-opener which he appreciated.
The CFC ANCOP of Mississauga West in Ontario, Canada, which has donated 35 units of row houses to the poor in Buguey, Cagayan, will be furnished with a report on his observations and the result of his on-site study. (*******Fe P. Taduran********)
