The annual Walk is ANCOP Canada's signature event for fundraising. It is their opportunity to tell the story about the work that ANCOP does – their vision and mission, their successes and to celebrate the contributions of their partners to their cause.
Apart from the Walk itself, the event program includes speakers who share about their experiences as program administrators, champions, sponsors, fundraisers, volunteers, and beneficiaries - all of which attest to the global impact of ANCOP’s work. In recent years, ANCOP Walk has been covered in social media and the local mainstream news networks.
Why a Walk not a Run? ANCOP chose to a Walk instead of a Run because almost everybody can walk, but not everybody can run. Walking also takes longer allowing participants more time to raise awareness in the communities where the Walk is held. The event is participated in by anybody who shares the belief that they have the collective responsibility of helping improve the quality of life of the poor.
ANCOP Walk is currently held in 20 locations in Canada. The venues vary from public squares, streets, and parks. It is typically held in August each year and participation is steadily increasing. This year, Walks are scheduled in the following locations:
August 3 - Ponoka, Alberta
August 4 - Montreal, Quebec
August 10 - Winnipeg, Manitoba; Ottawa, Ontario
August 11 - Victoria, British Columbia
August 17 - Brandon, Manitoba; Calgary, Alberta; Lloydminster, Alberta; Lethbridge, Alberta; St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador; Truro, Nova Scotia
August 18 - Toronto, Ontario; Vancouver, British Columbia; Windsor, Ontario
August 24 - Edmonton, Alberta
August 25 - Hamilton, Ontario; Regina, Saskatchewan; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
When you sponsor and/or donate to ANCOP Canada, you help fund materials to build low cost modest houses, common facilities for poor families, and provide financial support for the education, afterschool and values formation programs for children in the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Jamaica, and Canada.
ANCOP has the vision of bringing Christ's transforming love to the poor. They are dedicated to uplifting the lives of poor families in developing countries through shelter, child education, and humanitarian relief. They aim to restore the poor’s hope and dignity by organizing them into sustainable and self-reliant communities through livelihood assistance, values formation, and community empowerment.
The ANCOP program delivery team is composed of a small number of full-time employees who mobilize generous and talented volunteers across Canada. They develop partnerships with organizations who share their vision of and are enthusiastic about sharing their resources for their work.
Registration fee for the Walk is $25. Please visit www.ancopcanada.org for details. (***Fe P. Taduran***)
