Riyadh-July 2018: Asosasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (APM) recently launched ‘Bagong Kampeon 2018” in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It’s the fourth installment (or season) of the singing contest for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom. “Bagong Kampeon” began in 2015 (with Ronie de Castro as winner) and named Maritess Mamaclay and Reymond Guillena as winners in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The launch coincided with the auditions for Riyadh and the celebration of “APM Family Day”, even as the audition dates for Jeddah and the Eastern province are also being eagerly anticipated. The top 15 among auditionees across the Kingdom shall be chosen by APM for the finals night slated for the fourth quarter of 2018.
But even before the finals night, those selected will undergo intense training following APM’s thrust to hone and develop the singing prowess of members, improve their performance and projection on stage, not to mention their vocal competency.
Founded on May 15, 2005 by Jeff Almendras, APM is a non-profit, independent, and professional organization that caters to the singing forte of Filipino migrant workers as well as their dependents in Saudi Arabia. It was organized to provide leisure, entertainment, and opportunity to the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia to enjoy and gather in respite from their busy work and lives, while discovering the musical talent in them. To this end, it has so far staged, apart from “Bagong Kampeon”, other competitions (such as “Voice of Riyadh”) for both singers and songwriters.
APM is currently led by Jun Magsino as its president, while the roster of APM officers includes Ronie de Castro (vice president), Olan Arawag (treasurer), Marina Matias (auditor) Cris Almuete (PRO), Aimy Roa (secretary) and Kurt Wilson (production director).
