The Association of Golden Australian Pilipinos Inc (AGAPI) marked ANZAC Day 13 April in solemnity, with military widow Vicky Castaneda Tinker offering a bouquet of flowers to honour the men and women who have served, and who are serving, in various areas of conflict.ANZAC Day is celebrated 25 April throughout Australia to honour the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought in Gallipoli, Turkey in 1915 during World War I.
The occasion has since been expanded to “acknowledge the men and women who fought for freedom and democracy in World War I, World War II, and modern-day conflicts.”
AGAPI president Dorothy del Villar said, “We enjoy the freedom we have today because of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to make this world a better place.”
April celebrants were also greeted with hugs, well wishes, and a joint cake on the day while new members were sworn in.
Meanwhile, Maria Singh hosted lunch to mark her birthday at the Blacktown Workers Club with several of her AGAPI mates in attendance 29 April.
AGAPI comprises Filipino-Australian seniors in Western Sydney.
