Who could be a Saint; and how can they become Saints ? (summary obtained from the internet)
" Any person could be a Saint.. Initially, their name is submitted to the local bishop , who gathers and investigates on their life and any writings they may have written on earth, and submits the information to the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints, who rejects or accepts their application. If accepted, they make a thurough investigation. and, the person is called servant of God. They can choose to declare the person who lived a heroically a virtous holy life., while on earth. This person is then called Venerable.
To be recognized in heaven, a miracle should have taken place through the intercession of that person.. Miracles are identified and verified scientifically by a group of independent doctors and approved by a panel of theologians. This may take five of more years. The current Pope gives the final approval and declares the person Blessed.
A confirmation of a second or more miracles enhance the decision of the Pope. The saint's name is included in the Canon list, and the Saint is Canonized by the current Pope.
Live a holy life on earth and help others: and be a Saint.
