The Filipino Centre Toronto To Hold 2018 Outstanding FilCan Students Awards

The Filipino Centre Toronto - FCT, one of the prominent  and progressive  service- focused community hubs in the Filipino Canadian community in Ontario will conduct its 12th Annual Outstanding Students Awards-OSA on October 28, 2018, Sunday, 2:00 pm. at the FCT Social Hall, 4395 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Toronto.

The FCT will present awards this year to 14 top elementary, secondary and post-secondary school graduates. The program, a scholastic competition since 2005, now known as the "Rosalinda C. Javier Outstanding Students Awards"-RCJOSA  in honour of the late Rosalinda C. Javier, erstwhile long-serving FCT President & CEO, community leader and teacher. It was established to encourage and recognize Filipino Canadian students to perform successfully in their respective studies. Specifically, FCT will honour student graduates who have achieved academic excellence and student success with plaques of recognition and cash incentives. Also to receive special awards during the ceremony are 2 former members of the FCT Board of Directors.

Among those who will be given honours are 4 elementary school finishers, seven high school graduates and 3 post- secondary degree holders. All the awardees have successfully passed the selection process by satisfactorily meeting the evaluative criteria of : academic average( 50%), co-curricular activities( 15%), community involvement( 15%) and interview performance (20%).

The RCJOSA Committee is composed of : former Philippine Teachers Association of Canada President Tony A, San Juan( Chairman), FCT President Mary Ann Salcedo - San Juan,( Co-chair) TDSB- Ha. Halbert Public School Principal Karlo Cabrera, TCDSB Community Relations Officer Jodelyn Huang,  TDSB-East York Collegiate Institute Vice Principal Fermer Santos, Journalist & Inquirer.net Reporter Marisa Roque, and ex FCT Director Edmundo Birondo .
