Paulina Corpuz
CHANGE that MATTERS

Hello Neighbours,

I am Paulina Corpuz. I came to Canada in 1993, with my 11-month old child, reuniting with my husband. Like you, I experienced the challenges of finding a job and losing a job, seeking an affordable place to stay, looking for affordable childcare and better City recreation programs, riding the bus and the subway, and much more. Your story is my story too. Let us bring our stories and our voices to the Toronto City Council.

Briefly, about me:

ð Mother of 3, social justice advocate, analyst, entrepreneur and, 25-year Scarborough Southwest resident.

ð Studied Psychology in University of The Philippines and completed professional certificates: Non-Profit Sector Management, Business Analysis, Change Management and Life-skills coaching.

ð Community social worker, organizer, business analyst, project coordinator, TV host/producer, and, small business CEO.

ð Awarded for distinguished work and 25+ community service: Outstanding Asian, Distinguished Alumni, Outstanding volunteer, and, Pinoy of the Year 2018 Golden Balangay Awards.

ð Strongly advocated for Bill 148, Workplace Fairness, Jobs Act 2017 (Changes to the employment standards, increasing the minimum wage for workers to $14 per hour).

ð Led initiative to declare Filipino Heritage Month in the City of Toronto. Subsequently, at the Toronto Catholic District School Board (199 schools).

I love Scarborough. It is my home. It needs a CHANGE that MATTERS.

I am deeply concerned about the poverty in our city.  I will strongly advocate and support policies and initiatives that will help reduce poverty, improve safety of our neighborhoods and well-being of residents.   I will work with you and for you for an improved city —revitalized, vibrant, healthy, safe, prosperous, accessible and affordable.

ð COMMUNITY SAFETY. Safer roads, pedestrians, commuters, cyclists and drivers. Safer and accessible community centres and neighborhood parks.

ð More spaces, services and programs for children, families, youth, women, newcomers, seniors and people with disabilities.

ð Decent and affordable HOUSING.

ð Better, affordable and accessible TRANSIT.

ð Better services for residents and business. REDUCE RED TAPE at City Hall.

ð Improve BUSINESS environment and generate LOCAL GOOD JOBS.

Let us bring our stories and our voices to the Toronto City Council.

Together, let us make a City that is revitalized, vibrant, green, healthy, safe, accessible and affordable.

Let me bring our stories and our voices to the Toronto City Council.

Yours in Service,

Paulina Corpuz “

“I had the privilege of working with Paulina in advocating for Bill 148, Workplace Fairness Job Acts 2017, Filipino Heritage Month and organizing 2 Filipino Workers Conference.  She has consistently advocated for the community and workers’ issues and continue to do so through the Filipino TV program, Workers Agenda.”      —Toni Eyre, Community Labour Advocate

“We were most impressed by her ceaseless efforts in connecting to immigrants and foreign workers and engaging them to the broader community.” —Richard Lee, Deputy Executive Director, S.E.A.S.

We live in a great neighborhood here in Scarborough South West, but not all of us are able to take part. Paulina wants to change the story by fostering a Community that cares, that believes in respect, that doesn't leave people behind when they are having a rough time, that values our local workers and businesses and make sure people are not squeezed out by sky rocketing living costs.

She wants to be engaged in this beautiful and diverse community, and to be our voice in city hall with passion, with principal, with pride.
