Toronto District School Board Holds Teacher-Hiring Information for Internationally-Trained Educators

The Toronto District School Board ( TDSB), in pursuing its significant community outreach initiative recently conducted a teacher-hiring information in co-operation with the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC). TDSB is Canada's largest public-supported school board and the 4th largest school board in North America with nearly 600 elementary, intermediate and secondary schools and almost 232,000 student enrollment.
The 2-day free event , as arranged and organized by Tony A. San Juan. PTAC's director emeritus and immediate past president, was conducted on July 7, 2014 and July 10, 2014 at the TDSB Head Office in North York, Toronto, Ontario.
Specifically, the meeting aimed to provide valuable information and advice to Ontario teaching professionals seeking employment with the public- school board either on contract-permanent positions or occasional - long term or daily casual assignments in its various secondary, elementary, and specialty schools in Toronto.
The Resource Presenters offered insights and relevant information on teacher supply & demand, hiring process & procedures, entry qualifications & professional expectations for applicants, impact of Ministry of Education Regulation 274, and career alternative paths & workable strategies for unemployed and underemployed licensed teachers in Ontario.
Those who attended are registered members of the Philippine Teachers Association - Canada (PTAC), Latin Education Network ( LAEN), teacher-candidates from Ontario Universities Faculty of Education, and other certified teachers from identified visible minority groups.
Fifty-two (52) teacher applicants participated in the 2 sessions: one, for elementary ( primary & junior) and another, for secondary( intermediate & senior)division teachers. All the attendees have Ontario Certified Teacher( OCT) qualifications with subject certifications in biology, chemistry, English, ESL, general science, history, junior, kindergarten, mathematics, physical education, physics primary,social science and special education.
The focused presentations were led by teacher recruitment administrators such as Donna Fanjoy, Jean Lee and Shenyu Huang who gave information and insights regarding teacher employment possibilities with the school board. The consultation event was also made possible by senior officers of TDSB, namely Director of Education Donna Quan, Executive Superintendent Andrea Alimi, Senior Managers Andrew Gold & Jean Shaw and Vice-Principal Fermer Santos of Malvern Collegiate Institute.
Many of the teacher candidates expressed gratitude and appreciation to the TDSB senior staffers for the meaningful professional advice and purposeful direction they received towards meeting the attendant requirements and strategies for a competitive search and potential assignments with the school board.(TSJ).
