FilCCA’s Search for Achievers

One of the highlights of the Filipino Communities Council of Australia (FilCCA) Bi-ennial conference is the FilCCA Awards Night.  It commenced in year 2000.  .   It is the role of  FILCCA  to raise the profile of the Filipino Australian community and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Filipinos in Australia. These awards aim to meet this goal whilst ensuring impartiality and transparency during the selection process.

FilCCA Awards comprised of the following:
·        Filipino-Australian of the Year Award
·        Filipino-Australian Achiever Award
·        Leadership Award
·        Youth Achievement Award
·        Outstanding Community Organisation Award

The Filipino-Australian of the Year Award must meet the general criteria and most importantly, excel in all if not most of the award categories and must have demonstrated extra-ordinary achievements and contribution to the whole Filipino community.

The Outstanding Community Organisation must be incorporated for no less than 3 years; the purpose and objective of the organisation is to service the Filipino-Australian communities, may it be locally or internationally (ie Philippines); active (not idle) and pro-active; has made a long lasting impact to the Filipino-Australian communities.  Services is to be interpreted in a wider and broader sense, not limited or restricted provided it delivers some form of service, particularly, to the Filipino community.

Criteria
All applications must be accompanied by a nomination form and address the following general criteria and the criteria relevant to the category nominated.

General Criteria
* Must be a permanent resident or Australian citizen of Filipino descent
* Academic achievements, if applicable
* Personal goals and other achievements
* Degree of difficulty and sacrifices made
* Personal interests and involvement in the wider community
* Contributions and benefits to society
* Not a declared bankrupt
* No criminal conviction with one year or more period of imprisonment
* Samples of press articles, awards, certificates, photos, etc, and
* No more than 2000 word summary on nominee

Selection Process

State Councils are responsible for nominations from their respective states/territories and are expected to make enquiries and conduct investigations as to the probably nominees for the different categories.

The Awards Committee and Panel of Judges will select the Filipino-Australian of the Year Award, which will be the over-all winner, from the nominees for the Filipino-Australian Achiever Award.

We request that all applications be received by close of business, duly endorsed by their State Council, to the Awards Committee Coordinator, Perlita Swinbank, PO Box 372 Civic Square Canberra  ACT or email it to   no later than 15th August 2014.

The awardees will be presented at the gala night on Saturday, 25 October 2014 at Novotel, Parramatta, NSW.
