Christmas is in the air! Nalalanghap na natin ang simoy ng Pasko! In Canada and in the western world, we do feel now the holiday season is in the snowy breeze of the landscape!
Yes, folks! That time of the year is here anew, when we, people in the Christian world celebrate with our loved ones the most significant season of the year, and the ending of one year, and the beginning of another, as well.
And just like the first Christmas, when the Messiah was born, bringing joy to the world, so people everywhere will light up this celebration with Philippine paskuhan traditions like dusting and decorating the Christmas tree, hearing & preparing for simbang gabi, displaying and lighting up the capiz parol na kumu-kutitap-kutitap, sharing the noche buena hamon, queso at puto bombong, and mga pasyalan sa shopping malls, pagra-wrap ng aginaldo, pag-bibisita sa mga kamag-anak, atbp.
From tropical mahamog na Paskuhan in the east to white Christmases in the snowy and chilly west, people of all races enjoy the Christmas celebration in the world and what other countries have been doing for a long, long time. Filipinos around the world, likewise, celebrate "the longest Christmas in the world", starting the onset of so-called 'ber months of the year, that is, from September to December. Moreover, the playing and well-loved carols and praying and praising the good Lord to commemorate gratefully and heartily the birth of Jesus Christ, aptly surrounded by our family and loved ones.
FILIPINO TRADITION: "MANO PO NINONG, MANO PO NINANG!"
To the children and our children & grandchildren, chanting Christmas is coming! It's coming! is a well-received refrain. At sa araw ng Kapaskuhan, the traditional "Mano po ninong, Mano po ninang , kami po'y namamasko!, comes to play with smiles and happiness on glowing faces. That's our tradition to keep. That's the sharing of giving and receiving to engage. That's the rich Filipino tradition to realize in the world within and without. God bless everyone! ( Tony A. San Juan, OCT-Retired)
MALIGAYANG PASKO AT MASAGANANG BAGONG TAON SA ATING LAHAT!
