35th Sacerdatol Anniversary of Fr. Bienvenido P. Ebcas, Jr.

Our Lady of Assumption Parish honored Rev. Fr. Bienvenido P. Ebcas, Jr. on his 35th Anniversary of his priestly ordination. This memorable celebration was organized by Our Lady of Assumption Parish  AFCM  groups, was held on July 1, 2018 at the St. Peter and St. Paul Banquet Hall.

Over 600 clergies  (Fr. Alan Lapay, Fr.Albert Macalipay, Fr, Joel Pabilona and Deacon Bob Rosales.) , his brothers and sisters and friends  faithfully joined him in this Sacerdotal celebration. This event was hosted by the Assumption Prayer Community (OLAPC)led by Jose Bona.

Fr. Bienvenido P. Ebcas, Jr. was born in a small town in Leyte, Philippines. He is one of the ten brothers and sisters. When he was young, he encountered so many experiences that made him work to be closer to God. He even drove for St. Mother Theresa during her visit in the Philippines. Even though he grew up from a poor family, his brothers  and sister did support and encouragement to complete  his studies. He completed his M.A. in Pastoral Theology and M.. in Psychology.  He was a Professor at St. John's School of Theology in Palo, Leyte; was Asst Dir. and Professor, Institute of Priest Renewal, CBCP Phil.; Dev. Management and Human Services  Counselling at the Institute of Management; Speaker in the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference (FABC). He was ordained as a Priest in May 1983.

Once a Priest, he is a Priest Forever.

He came to Canada in Jul 1996 and took advanc studies at Durham College and Schulich in York University. He served as an associate to Pastor Rev. Fr. Basil Breen in St. Thomas the Apostle  in Markham, where he was well accepted, especially with his work with the youth in the parish. He joined the Knights of Columbus KC Council # 10182 of St. Thomas the Apostle. He was instrumental in forming the St. Barnabas Council # 13785 in 2004. He received  his fourth degree rank in the Knights of Columbus.

In  August  2008 Fr. Ben moved from St. Barnabas Parish to Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bathurst Ave. in Toronto.  Fr. Ben was assigned as Pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Parish (OLA)  and Director of the Archdiocese Filipino Catholic Mission (AFCM).

In Our Lady of Assumption, Fr. Ben assigned the following in the Ministries: Sis. Zeny Uy (Worship; AFCM Secretary) Lady Rosemer  Enverga (Temporalities) Joey Abanilla (Youth), Don Quilao ((Education) and Jeannette Rosales ( Family Apostolate). Fr. Ben helped them in planning their project activities and conducted  regular meetings with these Ministries.

One of  Fr. Ben 's greatest achievement  is his spearheading the Ministries of AFCM  to raise  Funds and Goods to the survivors of calamities in Leyte and Mindanao during the past  years.

Lady Rosemer Enverga  presented the Award of Excellence Medal (the Senator Tobias C. Enverga Medal )   to Rev. Fr. Ben Ebcas  for his untiring work to the Filipino Community and the Archdiocese. Also shown at right is Lady Rosemer with the PCCF group .


On this evening, Fr. Ben introduced the five young seminarians he is supporting in OLA Parish. Fr. Ben  appealed to the guests and parishioners to help him raise fund for his Project for Priests.  George and Dolly Poblete, responded quickly and presented a checque for Fr. Ben's worthy project.
