Fishing in Windsor, Ontario and Finding Nemo

Ambassador Bridge, Canada Border-There are two group of visitors meeting each other in this Victoria Day long weekend. One came by car, the other swam the wide expanse of the Great Lakes crossing the borders of the US and Canada to spawn.

In the Movie Finding Nemo fish are considered friends not food.

But here, in the wide expanse of the Windsor River along Ambassador Bridge bordering Canada and the USA, Fish are Food when they bite and get hooked.

While the urbanites enjoy the sounds and dazzling display of fireworks in the cities, the avid fishing aficionados shriek for joy and display their catch of Silver Fish or White bass, the decibels depending on the size of their catch.

But there are surprises. My 13 year old grandson Zedrick and his mom both caught a three pound-15 inches Salamander fish complete with four legs and mouth as big as a catfish which they quickly released. While an 80 year-old immigrant grandma from Pasay displayed for the camera her first Silver Bass catch of the day. Another lady from Mindoro was so happy to show off her Striped Bass.

Rain or shine, the excitement of catching their favourite restaurant fish delicacy brought young and old standing or sitting side by side, patiently waiting for their coolers to be filled with these fish bonanza.

Sitting on their camping chairs with ice filled coolers, fishing rods, raincoats and umbrellas to battle the unpredictable weather and lack of sleep for many coming from as far as Toronto and suburbs, time is no match for those who believe in their lucky day.

Here they are in photos. Of course, the real Nemos are hard to find.
