June 10-The Hague: The Filipino Catholic Community (FCC) in The Hague has successfully hosted its 8th FAMILY FUN DAY last Sunday at Zuiderpark. On a sunny Sunday last June 10, the community gathered for a day full of family fun games. It was a day filled with a very enthusiastic crowd and a full-packed fun-day program.
A selection of intensive adrenaline-packed outdoor activities has always been the spice and highlight of this yearly event. This year’s celebration featured four competing teams, all vying for the title as best team of the year. Although the four teams manifested a high degree of emphasis on winning, it was clearly evident that each team played in the spirit of pure fun, sportsmanship and friendship. Each competing team underwent an intensive display of concentration, mental and physical strength as they competed in every game. The set of outdoor activities which included teambuilding games, obstacle race and relay race were primarily organized to foster teamwork, cooperation and coordination among the community members.
The time-pressured teambuilding games such as Crossing Mine Field, Memory Game, Mine Field, Cross the road, were designed to build team strength and facilitate communication. It was an impressive sight of how the leaders and members of each team manifested a high degree of discipline and motivation. The relay race games which included Loopbroek, Flying Carpet, Banana Race, Sack Race, and Centipede Race, tested the team’s speed, stamina, coordination and endurance.
Both young and old displayed techniques of exemplary discipline and huge amount of energy. It was a delight of the crowd seeing all energized teams engaged in a high degree of teamwork and focus. Not just with the goal of winning but taking simple pleasure and fun in every challenging game. The community members did not just enjoy a show of hilarious acts, stunts, super speedy athletes, or highly motivated leaders; but it was a collective experience of simply being with people who sought the simple joy of having fun.
It was remarkable to catch a sight of how each one – from the organizers down to the facilitators, team leaders and members – displayed mutual respect and adherence to the agreed-upon rules of the games, or simply the basic joy of play.
Ultimately there was that warm community spirit during the sharing of meals. The Filipino way of sharing food at an event such as this is surely an admirable act to witness. Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous community lunch with a wide array of Filipino delicacies. It was a moment to relish the different dishes coming from the different regions in the Philippines. Eventually the event turned out to be a venue for a pleasant reunion of Filipino delights in a very informal nature-filled ambiance!
This year’s Family Fun Day was made possible by the immeasurable cooperation of the community members coupled with the strong and competent leadership of the different ministry coordinators. This yearly event aims to inculcate and enhance camaraderie among its members and especially to encourage the young people to actively participate and to understand the principle of friendly competition. The day ended with an exhausted yet happy crowd. It was a significant day for the community members to bond, make new friends, share stories and enjoy some time away from their usual daily routine at home or at work.
The Yellow team bagged the first place this year with the Green, Orange and Blue teams ranking 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Each participating team composed of children and adults received packs of selected Philippine-made food products as prizes. Toko 4 All, which is operating with its new name My Little Philippines, also donated special prizes for
