Wild Wild West – theme of the Filipino Catholic Community of Rotterdam (FCCR) Spring Party

Poortugaal, The Netherlands

At the scene - plastic gunslinging cowboys and cowgirls in their heavy boots ready for action! Among the crowd - one native American Indian woman. The war between the native Indians and the cowboys is long resolved, and that night they are ready and enthusiastic to party all night long.

It’s a Spring Wild Wild West charity party of the Catholic Community of Rotterdam (FCCR) held last May 18 at the Brinkhoeve Kerkstraat party hall in Poortugaal , some 20 minutes ride from the center of Rotterdam.

Smashing in their cowboy / cowgirl outfit, with plastic holster hanging down their wastes and brandishing their plastic guns and finally topping it up with a cowboy hat…it was surreal.

A dreamlike idea of the FCCR organizers, it’s like stepping into a world of lawmakers and outlaws where gun slinging and duel is as normal as drinking your favorite coffee. Welcome to the world of the real Wild Wild West! But unlike the old West where guys are rugged, tough, drunk and ready to draw their guns and pull the trigger, here everybody is happy, looking gorgeous and all set to enjoy and spend the evening dancing. There was however one brave native American Indian in the midst of the cowboys. Now the scene is complete.

Great setting- great music! With DJ KJ Reggie providing the cowboy music, we weretransported into the land of cactus, dust, saloon and beer drinking fellas!

Just for the night, we were back in the era of American conquest and survival, an era full of folklore and heroism. The evening was filled with rodeo and line dancing, very lively and oh yes, very contagious. It’s a synchronized dancing and to those who are not familiar with it, well, just follow the person in front of you and hope you will do it right – just for the pleasure of doing so. After all this is what it’s all about- FUN! FUN! FUN!!!!!

(Top left photo) ‘Best in Cowgirl attire’ was awarded to Ms. Rowena Salva, with red cowboy hat standing in between the Emcee Angel Axinto and Arnold Paco of FCCR.

The entire evening was entertained by DJ KJ Reggie singing karaoke (that’s where the KJ comes from - Karaoke Jockey) and disco music during his break. Everybody is having fun, hitting the dance when they can, sipping drinks from the bar, catching up with the latest news…..just chilling out…We all need to stretch our bones once in a while and simply enjoy the evening and be surrounded by cheerful people. Nothing could be better than this.

I have to give it to you FCCR – your Wild Wild West theme for your spring party was a fantastic idea!

Who would have thought that Asian could still look charming and gorgeous in a   upposedly rugged wild Buffalo Bill period. Amazing!

(L-R) DJ RJ Reggie provided the music; Catering ladies -Lea Hogervorst, Annie Arienza Rias and company; toko by Pinoy Village Sari Sari Store

Spring Wild Wild West Party was a charity event for the socio-community activities, diaconal work, church services and organizational expenses of the FCCR.

The organizers and members of the Filipino Community of Rotterdam would like to thank all their guests, sponsors and everyone who in one way or another made the event a very successful one…..’til next time!
