Toronto, Ontario - On Friday, July 5th, the entire community within the area of Thorncliffe Park  gathered in unity to witness the unveiling of a "Community Mural" Project in the East York Town Centre on Overlea Blvd. A well attended event, graced by Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, TNO staff, friends and residents of Thorncliffe neighbourhood area.

The Neighbourhood Organization (TNO), initiated a Community Mural Project in collaboration with STEPS Initiative and in participation by the "Intergenerational" Team of Volunteers, comprised of Youths and Seniors.

The project began in May with a series of comprehensive Art Workshops, which ended on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019.

This "Community Mural" painting is the "Colour of Our Voice". This is the revelation and of course, the end result product. It was also a project from a Team of enthusiastic "Intergenerational" Volunteer individuals, who contributed their talents and had participated in a unique Art project that depicts a diverse community, coming together in unity, a feeling of inclusiveness, a sense of belonging in a vibrant society we live in and now we call home.

Each session was focused not only to finish the art project but also having fun while discovering and cultivating each hidden talents. It was a unique opportunity to explore one's creativity and express one's  imagination through art, shape and colour, as well as, a great opportunity to have contributed to the growing population in the Thorncliffe Park community.

I am very happy and proud to be a part of this awesome project, I called a real "Masterpiece. Thank you to the collaboration between TNO and STEPS Initiative with its Artist, Jieun June Kim, who guided us through this rare and new experience. A special mention and gratitude to Alberto Rodil and Esha Kidwai of TNO for this awesome opportunity.

Volunteering, is a way of finding yourself and giving back to the community through different aspects, such as, painting, variety of information sessions and workshops, and finally, the launching and unveiling of this "Community Mural" project was indeed rewarding and very fulfilling. (ssl)
