We, at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and Secretary Imelda Nicolas, are very happy to hear the efforts of the Filipino diaspora for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
We are pleased to inform you that the CFO is still actively implementing the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Program (LINKAPIL) as a means for overseas Filipinos to provide assistance to the Philippines. This program has been in place since 1990 when Mt. Pinatubo first erupted and devastated many parts of the country.
It may interest you to know that we implement projects sponsored by overseas Filipinos directly to beneficiaries in the grassroots. After gathering modest funds from overseas Filipino communities and individuals, we were able to deploy several teams this month to personally distribute relief items to victims of typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan). A week after the typhoon struck, CFO was able to send a team to Palo and Pastrana, Leyte who had to go through Sorsogon and cross the sea from Bicol to Samar. At the moment, we have two teams distributing aid to families in Ormoc City and Bantayan Island, both badly hit by the disaster. More are planned depending on the assistance that would still come in, however, we are also now looking helping in the rehabilitation efforts of the affected areas.
As the relief efforts of the national government along with selfless local and international non-government organizations have only a short-term response to the immediate needs of our devastated kababayan in the Visayas region, the Philippine national government through President President Benigno S. Aquino III has formed a task group composed of his Cabinet members to ensure a fast-tracked transition to full-scale rehabilitation and rebuilding of areas hit by super-typhoon Yolanda.
According to Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the task group will be under the supervision of Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, with Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla designated as task group coordinator and Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan as planning coordinator. The task group’s priorities composed of shelter and reconstruction; power restoration; livelihood and employment, resettlement and psycho-social care; environmental protection; and resource generation and allocation.
The CFO is with this full scale-rehabilitation plans as we are still accepting in-kind or cash donations in view of the need of many Filipino communities. For material donations, these can be sent to Citigold Center, 1345 Quirino Ave. corner South Superhighway, Paco, Manila 1007. Cash donations may be sent via bank deposit or Visa payment through our website www.cfo-linkapil.org.ph. The same website also contains the bank account details where to send the donation.
We are also coordinating with the Office of the President and the Department of Budget and Management to include LINKAPIL donations from overseas Filipino communities, no matter how big or small, in the government portal they have put up in a bid for transparency in the use of donations: http://www.gov.ph/faith/. As you may have known, FAiTH is an online portal of information on calamity aid and assistance—both in cash and in kind—received by the Philippines from other countries, multilateral organizations, and also those sent through Philippine embassies abroad. This shows comprehensive information on humanitarian aid donated to the Philippine government. If the donations are coursed through government agencies—specifically the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Office of Civil Defense of the Department of National Defense (DND)—the portal will likewise show users how the funds were spent.

And we are at this time continuing our fundraising relief appeal for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda. We are overwhelm by the tremendous support of Ballarat Community here in the regional country Victoria by pouring their hearts and compassion to the Filipino Community and giving anything that they would like to share for the victims of these calamity.
We are very touched by their kindness and generosity. Indeed we are very lucky to be in these hospitable Nation.

Tom Tañada's Concert last June 24, 2011 gave Alaskans an evening to remember! His diverse genres was enjoyed by his audience. This was his 3rd concert in Anchorage and a request from other cities of this state would bring him back for the 4th time. Alaskans especially of Filipino heritage enjoyed the regional folk music the best, although his classical and contemporary ones were such a pleasure to listen. Salamat Tom! Hasta la vista!

In viewing this current edition I felt compelled to write to you to seek your help in a campaign we are conducting in Canada to vote a Filipino-Canadian among the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010. Thank you for sending the Newsletter. I'm so pleased of reading what's happening around the world especially the Filipino Community. I am a published author and my first book "The Messages" miscellaneous prose and poetry was published in Dec. 2006. At the moment I am waiting the editing of my second book "The Messages of My Dreams" which is my Dream Diary[prophecies, warnings and reminders]to finish as it was delayed. I managed to write my third book while waiting the editing of my second book. The editing and proofreading of my third book "The Messages, Conversation With God Against Satan" my diary in seven days [miscellaneous prose and poetry]was finished last week and I forwarded the manuscript to the publisher last friday. They replied that I have to wait within 2 weeks for them to review then I will know whether they will publish or not. I trust everything to God, His Will be done.
Is it possible to share/contribute my writing in your Newletter? I have contributed to some Filipino News/magazines here in UK.

Hello there Mr. Eddie Flores of Munting Nayon Publication online, Netherlands.
I read a comments of Mr. John Van Laar of Ontario, Ca.who is married to Ms. Corazon of the Philippines.
May this note reach his attention because I needed assistance to any Rotarian for the ongoing Water and Sanitation project for the entire Barangay/community in the Philippines.
This project is funded by the Rotary Club International and USAID with the amount of Php. pesos 100,000,000.00.
I would appreciate that the community I visited will be a beneficiary of the this project, for their source of drinking water is not safe since it is taken along riverbank and potentially endangering lives for possible bacterial/varial contamination, especially during rainy season with frequent flooding.
I pray that beside's the Rotary International Water and Sanitation project we may share bountiful blessings we are having right now by sponsoring some of this children who graduated from high school to take, technical/vocational and skilled training for them to enter the workforce already equipped and tooled.
Training in: culinary; namely, cooking, baking and pastry making; sommelier/waitering and housekeeping; butchers, welders and mechanics and electricians and etc short term but effective and useful for this poor children in the hinterlands.

I was there and witness the circumstances that hinder them to do more for their endeavor.

Aloha Mr and Mrs Flores,
We have been exchanging emails for quite sometime now and it is nice to see your photo together. What you both are doing is wonderful. I went through all the photos and seeing them made me homesick of the Philippimes .
I am here in Hawaii simce October and visited my three daughters and their family. I am not sure if there is any Filipino organization here but there are several of us who gather together often. I am going home next week to the Philippines and I will tell my daughters and their friends to have an activity together and form an organization.
My daughter Eliza May Villanueva Shumwaywas voted Young Mother of the year of 2005 and Represented the State of Hawaii,and a close friend Bennette Misalucha Evangelita was voted Mother of the Year a couple of years back represented Hawaii to the America Mothers Inc. Selection was based on their achievements as a homemaker, personal integrity,and community service.
I will ask my daughter to send some photos of such. Here in Laie, Hawaii Latter-Day Saints Filipinos come to Brigham Young University to get their Bachelor's degree as Scholars. Most of them go home to the Philippines and some get married while in school. Two of my daughters here are members of the Concert Choir of BYU-Hawaii.This Choir toured Korea and Japan ,and the Phils.But the Japan and Korea Tour was famous because they were allowed by the Japanese Religious group to sing in their temple,

I left the Phil. when I was 22 yrs. old. From the Phil., I went to Europe, thinking I was only going to stay for a few months on vacation. I overstayed and from there, moved to New York City, then to Washington, DC and finally am now a "native" of Southern, CA. I went back home after 25+ yrs of being away.
Your website filled a big void inside me. I am so very grateful.
