Ang Negrosanon in North America in a hot day of 27 degrees and scattered rain showers in the evening rush hour of May 5 held a successfully fun and formal banquet hall induction with guests from various civic and community organizations.
It was also an event where presidents of associations from Western and Eastern Visayas, particularly Negros Islands came together to celebrate what could be a milestone in partnership and active community relations.
Consul Edna May Lazaro of the Philippine Consulate General Toronto, inducted into office the new set of officers of Ang Negrosanon and praised the humanitarian work of the officers of the association and urged all Filipino organizations to look back to the indigents of the motherland and help in whatever they can for the benefit of those in need.
The new set of officers were: President-Estrella Mercurio, Vice President-Joyce Lo, Secretary-Henelisa Valera, Treasurer-Evelyn Birondo, Auditor-Ray Rivera, PRO-Edwin Mercurio.
Board of Advisers were: Roger Mercado, Diana Jorgensen, Joel Marilla, Ed Birondo.
The Board of Directors were: Imelda Lamasan, Ramon Hojilla, Remy Laxamana,
Duran Macalipsay, Josie Marilla, Leda Richards, Ofelia Rivera, Boom Valera and Eumelia Solis.
Among the invited guests were heads of various community and civic associations from Asociacion Negrense of Ontario and Vancouver, British Columbia, Circulo Ilonggo, Siquijodnons (Siquijor Islands) of Ontario, Ontario Silliman University Alumni Association (ONSUAA), the Philippine Heritage Band and others.
The new president of the association encourages the officers to engage the greater majority of members from project planning to its crucial implementation.
“Maintenance and growth of membership for the association will be one of the main challenges for us in the next couple of years. The continued support of family and friends are important for the organization’s sustainability.
While the importance of a good set of dedicated leaders cannot be downplayed; adult, youth and children are the lifeblood of an organization and unless members are involved, it will be a difficult uphill climb,” Ms. Mercurio added.
