The Association of Golden Australian Pilipinos Inc (AGAPI) marked one of the pivotal events in Australian history through prayer, song and dance, paying tribute to the Australian and New Zealand troops who fought in Gallipoli, Turkey over a hundred years ago.
In a solemn ceremony at the Rooty Hill School of Arts 28 April, AGAPI members commemorated ANZAC Day celebrated 25 April throughout Australia with a march and floral offering, instilling among members the significance of the occasion.
AGAPI president Dorothy del Villar, who is recuperating from a recent knee surgery, advocated that such tradition be maintained “to acknowledge the men and women who fought for freedom and democracy in World War I, World War II, and modern-day conflicts”.
She updated members of AGAPI events in May, including a fund-raising activity for cancer research and participation at the Blacktown Festival parade.
April celebrants – Sara Dawson, Epifania Madriaga, Lilia Peterson, Delia Purisima and Corazon Resurrecion – were feted with hugs, well wishes, and a joint cake.
Love songs from Nita Sentinellar and Elaine Liddle added a nostalgic touch to the occasion.
Meanwhile, AGAPI received a laptop computer from the office of Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic, MP.
AGAPI was also well-represented at the Seniors Forum at Mr Husic organised at The Hub, Mt Druitt 1 May.
