Crossover Canada Smart Rules Dreamers International Basketball Challenge in the Philippines

Crossover Canada SMART dominated the Dreamers International Basketball Challenge by winning both 18U and 16U divisions titles at Batis Aramin Resort in Lucban Quezon Philippines. Ateneo bound Matthew Daves made his presence felt and led his 18U team to a back to back championships. Coach Mike Cruz was elated to see his stalwarts fend off all challenges and maintain form despite a very young core and tiring schedule.
He also gives much credit to Denzel Faraon who manned the backcourt despite playing back to back championship games. He was awarded part of the first Defensive Team. Other awardees include Andre Cruz who was selected as Mythical Five along with MVP winner Matthew Daves.
The 16U team who recently won in Malaysia continued to dominate their age group and added the Dreamers International Basketball Challenge to their long list of accolades. Coach Rod Garcia was very proud to see his team continue to play at a high level despite having some of his players play up for the 18U division. Tyler Garcia was adjudged MVP of the tournament with Jason Diaz joining him at the Mythical Selection and Joshua Samonte making it to the first Defensive Team.
Crossover Canada SMART also participated at the SM NBTC National High School Championships where they reach the sweet 16. They beat Letran Knights and University of Baguio before losing to NCAA Jr Finalist Mapua. At the side events Paolo Malacad was a runner up at the Skills Challenge and Tyler Garcia almost making it to the final round of the 3 pt. Shoot Out contest. The team of Andre Cruz, Paolo Malacad, Mark Espinase and Cale Calura could only muster a quarterfinal finish on the 3 on 3 event.
