Berghaus Girls, Wehl group 1967-1970 celebrated their 50th anniversary, held at Novotel Hotel in Amsterdam last September 23.
November 27, 1967 - Fifty-nine Filipino girls left for The Netherlands to work for Berghaus as seamstresses with a three-year contract in Wehl, a small village in Gelderland.
It was the start of a wonderful adventure and learning experience. During Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays we would travel to countries we've only dreamed of - Rome, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England, Scandinavia.
The years flew and three years came to pass, it was time to say Good-bye. Some stayed behind in Holland, others migrated to Canada and US, and some went back home to the Philippines.
Now, almost fifty years since we came to Holland, we decided to celebrate our 50th Anniversary here in The Netherlands where it all began.
Starting with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by a short reception, and finally , a sumptuous Buffet Dinner.
Mena and Prisco Madayag came from Winnipeg, Channing and Nita Falgui from Vancouver, Luz and Paul from Calgary, Bernie from the Philippines, Gloria from Chicago, Joy and Pat from Germany. From The Netherlands - The Organizers - Mellie, Pat, Lolit, Annie, Rosie, Gilda and Irma.
It was a wonderful, nostalgic reunion and we hope to meet each other again someday soon.
