GALA PREMIERE OF HENERAL LUNA A BIG HIT IN GUAM
23 November 2015 - The Filipino Cultural Center (FCC) and the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA), with the full support of the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, hosted the premiere screening of the Filipino cinema event of the year Heneral Luna on November 13 at the Micronesia Mall Stadium Theatres.
The premier screening of Heneral Luna played to a full house crowd of nearly 300 Filipinos and Filipino-American community members, as well as Philippine history buffs, professors and film enthusiasts. The premier was also graced by Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio.
Philippine Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy, Acting Head of Post, read the message of Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja who was on official trip. Consul General de Borja, who is himself a historian, shared his personal recollection on how he learned more about Antonio Luna as General and Revolutionary. He said that the audience should enjoy the movie for its excellent acting, artistic merits and superb directing but with the realization that it is not a scholarly account of historical events. He emphasized that the film portrays one of the many points of view of the Philippine revolution where Antonio Luna is the central figure.
On the other hand, Mr. Meliton Santos, Jr., President of the Guam Filipino Artists and Mr. Alex Gagaring, Vice President of the Guam Filipino Artists also thanked the audience for their support of the film which will generate funds for the projects of both organizations.
PHL DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH DELEGATION JOINS 66TH SESSION OF WHO REGIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE WESTERN PACIFIC
19 October 2015 Philippine Health Secretary Janette L. Garin headed the Philippine delegation to the 66th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific that was held at the Hyatt Regency Guam from October 12 to 16. Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja and Madame Esperanza de Borja welcomed Secretary Garin and her delegation at the airport upon their arrival.
Also in her delegation were Undersecretary Lilibeth David, senior policy adviser Dr. Linda Milan, Director Myrna Cabotaje, Director Annabelle Yumang, Dr. Mar Wynn Bello, Dr. Donn Mc Angelo Valdez, Ms. Marie Emile Avanzado Paras, and Ms. Maika Ros Bagunu.
PHL CONSULATE GENERAL HONOLULU CONDUCTS CONSULAR OUTREACH SERVICES IN MAUI
09 October 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu conducted a consular outreach service in Maui, an island about 95 miles southeast of Honolulu, from October 03 to 04. It was the third consular outreach conducted by the Consulate to the island in 2015.
The consular outreach was made possible through the assistance of the Maui County, which provided the venue at the DMV center on Kaahumanu Road and volunteers to assist the consular outreach team.
The services provided included passport renewal, notarial and authentication, reports of births and marriages, dual citizenship, visa, and overseas voters (OV) registration. The team serviced 259 passport renewals and registered 151 overseas voters for the May 2016 Philippine national elections.
