By Marilie Bomediano
Sydney-Australia
January 23, 2018

Philippine Consul to Sydney Melanie Diano is inviting all of you Filipino and dual citizens to register for Overseas Voting Registration at the Philippine Consulate if you want to vote during the Senatorial elections this coming May 13, 2019.

Just bring your passports and dual citizenship documents for your chance to be heard, and elect the future leaders of our country and a chance to make a difference.

Consul Diano also recalled the recent 23rd Anniversary Gala Charity Show of Banag-banag Inc, showing adversity in very attractive bold colored costumes with international music at Rootyhill RSL last September last year.

Banag-banag Inc, Cebuano speaking  Association of Australia celebrated their 23rd annual anniversary themed: Unity in Diversity: Celebrating International Multiculturalism, they were proud that Cebu City is the sister city of Parramatta, NSW.

Filo-Aussie Cebuanos  multicultural performers were Sundar Bollywood Dancers, ViP Sydney Dancerz (VSD), the Tahitian Banag-banag Dancers , Philippine Dance Ensemble and Bailes Internacional Dancers who has mesmerized the audience of the fiesta and siesta funfare dancing ambience.

The local singers Brian Lorenz (Italian and broadways hits), Nanette Ursua-Frohriep (Spanish & International Hits) tenor vocalist Christopher Booth (Italian songs), O Sole Mio and La Luna Mezzo Mare with more mixed hits by Alwyn De los Santos, Anfeli Pulie as Jenina Cotelo as they also danced and stimulated the  CALD community audience.

"The theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating International Multiculturalism” is very apt because we are celebrating this year the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN, Consul Melanie Deano said.

“Do you know that we are the current chairman of ASEAN?, Consul Diano reminds the common-tao Filipino Community (FILCOM).

"The Philippines as one of the founding fathers of ASEAN, together with Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore signed the Bangkok Declaration in Thailand 50 years ago.

"We are also happy that Australia is a multicultural society, which prides itself as a multicultural country.

The Philippines share Australia’s multicultural policy of respect for one’s practice of their cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity in the country.

Australia has been very supportive of the Filipino community’s celebration of its cultural identity.

"Just like our multi-ethnic society in the Philippines, we also have multiple Filipino organizations in NSW, but I know for a fact that when the country needs your help during calamities and disasters, you all unite for a common purpose of helping our motherland.

"Lets continue and build on our values of “bayanihan”, pagtutulungan, pakikiramay at pagdadamayan.

"Lets continue to work together and be our partner in deepening the relations between the Philippines and Australia.

You are our most important link in strengthening the vibrant relations between our two countries.

This month we are celebrating the World Tourism Month, so we encourage all of you to visit our country and enjoy our world-class destinations.

"I can assure you that it is safe to travel in the country. We have so much to be proud of these days. The Philippines is now one of “the top economic performers “ in the region.

It is an attractive destination for investments and peso is Asia’s best performing emerging market currency according to Bloomberg.

The Philippine economy also registered a 6.5% growth in the second quarter and things are only going up as our economy enters the period of Christmas, the Philippine style.

Lets all pray that we will continue this stability for the benefit of our countrymen living in poverty.
