Filipino Canadian sensation Tyler Garcia recently was invited to workout with the U16 and U19 Batang Gilas in the Philippines after a strong showing at the 2019 Chooks To Go NBTC playing for Crossover Canada. Tyler has caught the eye of Batang Gilas Assistant coach Anton Altamirano and recommended him to Coach Sandy Arespacochaga and Team Manager Andrew Teh.

Tyler left for the Philippines last May 10 for a 10-day workout with the team so Coach Sandy can have a closer look on him. And just day he joined the team work the coaching staff was already impressed with his skills and attitude towards the game. Thus resulting to most high school program inquiring about his services for their teams. Coach Manu of San Beda mentioned that they will have Tyler lined up right away in case he decides to stay with San Beda. Ateneo De Manila University and University of the East has also shown interest and invited the wonder kid to work out as well with their respective teams.

Batang Gilas coaches was impressed with Tyler talent and now considers him part of the pool for upcoming tournaments. Team Manager William Loa advised the parents to work on his papers so he is ready just in case he gets called for national duty for SEABA U16 and FIBA Asia Cup U16 tournaments.

This is great news for our community as Canada continues to be a source of players for the Philippines. Crossover Canada top honcho Coach Mike encourages its youth with potential to work on their papers early as an opportunity to play for the national team is now within reach through its basketball program.

Crossover Canada is offering a basketball summer camp to help identify potential players for consideration to play internationally. There will be two location available with Lincoln Alexander Public School in Ajax for players coming from the east starting on June 1 and Erindale Secondary School for players from the west side of GTA starting this June 2.

Camp directors will be led by ex-Brock University Coach Si Khounviseth and NBTC head coach Rod Garcia.
