They rocked. Literally.
The Association of Golden Australian Pilipinos Inc (AGAPI) marked its 13th anniversary last month, celebrating the theme ‘Swinging 60s’ with a mix of rock ‘n roll and traditional Filipino dances.
Garbed in sneakers, colourful shirts, petticoated skirts, pedal pushers, neck bandanas and jeans, they boogied, they cha-chad, they swung, seemingly enjoying the walk down memory lane at the Rooty Hill School of Arts and Trades function room.
On hand to help AGAPI members celebrate were special guests State Member for Mt Druitt Edmund Atalla MP, Consul Melanie Rita Diano of the Philippine Consulate General Sydney, Blacktown City Council’s Cr Brad Bunting and Guardian Funeral’s Marianne Large, who seemed to be amazed at their agility, creativity and fervour.
“This is one time in the year when our members celebrate what we have achieved,” said Dorothy del Villar, AGAPI president.
Meanwhile Olympia Reyes won the first prize of a roundtrip ticket to the Philippines courtesy of Guardian Funerals during the anniversary.
