(London, 18th July 2017) Rowena Romulo, owner of Romulo Café London, the first international branch of Manila-based Romulo Café restaurants, has been recognised as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World (Global FWN100™) by the Filipina Women's Network.
The Global FWN100 Award™ recognizes 100 women of Philippine ancestry who are changing the face of leadership in the global workplace. Awardees demonstrate outstanding achievement in their respective fields and are recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to society, ‘femtorship’ (female mentorship) and legacy.
Romulo, who opened Romulo Café London in March 2016 following a successful 30-year career in the financial services industry, was selected from an exceptional field of nominees from around the world. Honoured in the ‘Builder’ Award category, the selection committee recognised Romulo’s ‘exceptional organizational impact at a large workplace environment’, her ‘deep passion for a cause through collaborative initiatives or alliances’ and ‘high potential and skill with measurable results.’
Rowena Romulo said, ‘I am extremely honoured to have been selected for such a prestigious award and to be joining an esteemed group of accomplished Filipinas worldwide. I look forward to attending the Gala Awards Ceremony in Toronto this October.
‘When I started my career in Manila, first in restaurants and later in banking, never did I imagine that one day I would be seen as a role model for other Filipino women. I simply worked hard and did my best in whatever career I pursued. Romulo Café London is a tribute to my grandfather, Carlos P. Romulo, and my grandmother, Virginia Llamas. Our restaurant is for all Filipinos and people who love to eat and love good food. In this way, we try to uphold my grandfather’s diplomatic legacy.
‘My partners and I firmly believe that success comes from making the most of your talents and drawing the best you can from the people you respect as role models. Whatever I have achieved, I hope my daughter and the daughters of other hard working, driven Filipino mothers can appreciate the example we have set for them. The world is theirs for the taking. All they need to do is grasp it. Nothing is impossible. The impossible only takes time.’
Marily Mondejar, Founder and CEO of the Filipina Women’s Network, said, ‘The Global FWN100™ women are dynamic entrepreneurs, rising stars, practitioners, behind-the-scene leaders, community, government and corporate managers and executives who have moved through the ranks in large organizations, non-profits, and government agencies. They are inspiring examples of women doing extraordinary work who will motivate our youth and future leaders. They were selected based on the size and scope of their positions, influence in their industries and their communities, board affiliations and other leadership roles’.”
Since it opened 18 months ago, Romulo Café London has won a number of accolades, including the 2016 Time Out ‘Most Loved Restaurant in Kensington’ and received 5-star and top ratings from trend-setting lifestyle/food bibles like Time Out and Square Meal. In June 2017, Romulo Café London was chosen to take part in the first London Food Month, curated by British food gurus Tom Parker-Bowles and Grace Dent..
The Global FWN100 Award™ is a working recognition award with a meaningful purpose: FWN’s 2020 Vision is: a Filipina woman leader in every sector of the global economy. The Gala Awards Ceremony of the 14th Filipina Leadership Global Summit will be held on 25th-29th October 2017 at the Intercontinental, Toronto, Canada.
