The  Mabuhay Philippines Festival, a flagship project of the Philippine Independence Day Council(PIDC), is holding its "First Songwriting Competition-2021" in Canada. The competition is open for Canadian Residents only. This songwriting competition is a part of  PIDC's Mabuhay Philippines Festival 2-day Virtual Event on November 27 - 28, 2021, at 8:00 PM EST.

Moreover, the event is meaningfully meeting PIDC's artistic development program to encourage Canadian residents regardless of age and origin, to participate in this competition to showcase their songwriting skills.  Specifically, the mission of the PIDC -Mabuhay Philippines Festival songwriting competition is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters and to nurture composers and lyricists to have their composition make it to the mainstream. Thus, amateur and professional songwriters and musicians are encouraged to join.

Through this news bulletin, the leaders and organizers of PIDC Mabuhay Philippines Festival cordially invite those interested to participate in the "Songwriting Competitions 2021". No entry fee is required.

This competition is open to all genres. All entries will be judged by the merit of the following criteria: Musical Content( melody, basic harmony)=20%, Lyrics( body of verse)= 40%, and Overall Impact or Likeability(creativity, originality & general appeal)= 40%.

Entrants may submit as many compositions as they wish. However, only one entry will be allowed per participant in the Grand Finals. The deadline for submission of entries is October 20, 2021.

PIDC has selected a prestigious panel of celebrity judges for the Grand Finals: Vehnee Saturno, Lani Misalucha, Gino Padilla, Renee Salud, Jhett Tolentino, “Little Albert” Maligmat, and JayR. Also, a panel of well-known and acclaimed composers/songwriters/performers are deliberately chosen by the PIDC Songwriting Committee to pre-judge all the entries and to select up to 10 finalists for the Grand Finals.  The Virtual Grand Finals night of the competition is on November 28, 2021, at 8 PM EST and is hosted by Bea Rose Santiago and Danny Orbillo.

Suffice, it is a great opportunity for songwriters, musicians, and performers to win cash and prizes, further their music careers, and gain recognition and exposure in the music industry. Prizes are Grand Champion-$3,000 plus trophy First Runner-up-$1,000 plus trophy, and Second Runner-up-$500 plus trophy. In addition to cash and merchandise prizes, winners benefit from a multilateral promotional campaign designed to give wide exposure and attention to their songwriting achievements.
