Pistahan !It is a meaningful celebration of cherished traditions and historical events evoking images and practices of what is best in a nation, most especially ourBayang Pilipinas.Yes, folks, friends and families. Once again, as a solid promoter and worthy purveyor of this cultural - and - religious showcase, theFilipino Centre Toronto-FCT, conducted its14thannualPistahan Sa Torontoon June 10, 2017 at Nathan Phillips Square, City Hall, Toronto. The occasion also is in apt celebration of the 119th Philippine Independence Day or"Araw ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas".


The FCT, is a quintessential non- profit and volunteer - run public service organization in the Filipino Canadian community since 2010. The commemorative community event, led by current FCT president Mary Ann San Juan who welcomed the special guests, attendees and her fellowkababayansto the whole - day festivities. Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Philippine Consul General Rosalita Prospero,Toronto Mayor John Tory , Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen De Villa,and other heads of several Filipino Canadian community associations.




The fun-filled day, showcased by the traditionalSanta Cruzanprocession with FilCan beauties representing faith-based personages and highlighted with the famousLechonparade and sharing of a dozen roasted pigs. Ably hosted by FCT chair Rey Tolentino ,the summer program, started with the singing of the the Philippine and Canadian national anthems by Melanie Lazaro, followed by a community prayer led by FCT vice-chair Efren De Villa and other official congratulatory messages and greetings Other features include cultural and musical performances byMartha Joy and FilCan cultural- focused organizations.


Proudly and honoured, the entire Executive and Directorate of theFilipino Centre Toronto acknowledged their big, warmpasasalamats to the2017Pistahanchair Philip Beloso & his organizing committee as well as to allthe guests, parents, friends, families,volunteers,entertainers, participants,sponsors and supportersfor a successful, memorable and remarkable yearly celebration of faith,remembrance, commitment and service.(Tony A.
