FILIPINO BOWLING COMMUNITY IN SINGAPORE UNITES TO SUPPORT CENTER FOR THE HANDICAPPED

04 September 2014 - The Filipino Bowlers Club Singapore (FBCS) organized the 2014 Ambassadors Cup on August 31 at the SAFRA Super Bowl Mount Faber, Singapore.

A total of 34 teams from various Filipino organizations and business groups took part in the annual event, which aims to raise funds to support the activities of charity organizations in the Philippines. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore also fielded its own team.

This year, proceeds from the tournament are earmarked for Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, a non-profit organization based in Cainta, Rizal, Philippines that caters to the needs of the orthopedically-handicapped persons.

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales noted that FBCS has demonstrated that camaraderie and the spirit of sportsmanship can be attained among the Filipinos and their friends in Singapore through the annual Ambassadors Cup Intra-Community Bowling Tournament. He added that FBCS also proved sports and charity can go together.

Team PAMET Singapore (Incredibowls) bested all other bowling teams and emerged as champion of this years tournament.

FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN SINGAPORE CELEBRATES KEY EVENTS IN AUGUST

27 August 2014 - Officials and representatives of the Filipino community in Singapore gathered at the chancery of the Philippine Embassy on August 23 for their regular meeting with Embassy officials and to take part in celebrations of key events for the month of August, such as the International Day of Worlds Indigenous Peoples on August 09, Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, National Heroes Day on August 25 and the Buwan ng Wika.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales presided over the meeting. He was assisted by Embassy officers and the heads of the various attached agencies.

During the meeting, Embassy officials updated the community representatives on forthcoming Filipino cultural events and other developments. A Q&A session followed the Embassys presentation.

To celebrate Ninoy Aquino Day, the Embassy showed a documentary on the life of the late senator from his early days as a war correspondent in the Korean War up to his assassination at Manila International Airport in August 1981.

National Heroes Day was highlighted by the presentation of a posthumous plaque of recognition to Mr. Ronnie Albeus, the former president of the Filipino Association Singapore (FAS), the oldest Filipino community organization in the city-state. He passed away last July.

The usual Filipino salu-salo concluded the days events.
