“Do you know that we are the current chairman of ASEAN?, Consul Diano reminds the common-tao Filipino Community (FILCOM).
"The Philippines as one of the founding fathers of ASEAN, together with Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore signed the Bangkok Declaration in Thailand 50 years ago.
"We are also happy that Australia is a multicultural society, which prides itself as a multicultural country.
The Philippines share Australia’s multicultural policy of respect for one’s practice of their cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity in the country.
Australia has been very supportive of the Filipino community’s celebration of its cultural identity.
"Just like our multi-ethnic society in the Philippines, we also have multiple Filipino organizations in NSW, but I know for a fact that when the country needs your help during calamities and disasters, you all unite for a common purpose of helping our motherland.
"Lets continue and build on our values of “bayanihan”, pagtutulungan, pakikiramay at pagdadamayan.
"Lets continue to work together and be our partner in deepening the relations between the Philippines and Australia.
You are our most important link in strengthening the vibrant relations between our two countries.
This month we are celebrating the World Tourism Month, so we encourage all of you to visit our country and enjoy our world-class destinations.
"I can assure you that it is safe to travel in the country. We have so much to be proud of these days. The Philippines is now one of “the top economic performers “ in the region.
It is an attractive destination for investments and peso is Asia’s best performing emerging market currency according to Bloomberg.
The Philippine economy also registered a 6.5% growth in the second quarter and things are only going up as our economy enters the period of Christmas, the Philippine style.
Lets all pray that we will continue this stability for the benefit of our countrymen living in poverty.
