The Philippines–Luxembourg Society (PLS) was founded in 1986 as a non-profit organization with the aim to promote friendship and cultural ties between the peoples of the Philippines and Luxembourg, and to manage charity projects in favor of the less privileged in the Philippines.
The charity component has grown in importance over the past years and now represents the main activity of the association so that almost all our events aim to generate funds for charities in the Philippines.
Our initial project aimed to provide schooling for children from a disadvantaged social background and has supported more than a hundred students over the past 26 years.
The PLS is particularly aware of the need for adequate local infrastructure, and our projects aim to assist the wider community, where necessary creating the appropriate infrastructure in schools or villages. PLS has also funded the reconstruction of a new roof for the Aklan Hospital in Caticlan. With PLS’s financial aid, members of the PLS Committee inaugurated the newly constructed building of a Day Care School in Antique. Many school toilets and libraries were built and computers ware also donated to a school in the Northern part of the Philippines. PLS gave a donation to the Special Education (SPED) programs to help children with educational disabilities.
On several occasions, the PLS has also organized emergency humanitarian support in the wake of natural disasters to local communities in need.
Humanitarian efforts
Following a new series of devastating typhoons, the PLS participated in a new humanitarian effort aimed in particular at improving the water quality, renovation of houses and school buildings, donation of solar units and the distribution of meals to victims who had lost all their possessions and resources.
The action was coordinated with local officials of “Missions Ministry Philippines”, whose activities focus particularly on people living in the affected areas. In 2012 to 2015, PLS has given aid to the Typhoon Bopha, 0ndoy, Yolanda victims in Davao, Iligan, Tacloban and Iloilo. The recent one in this year was the Nona Typhoon in the Bicol region. They are using the financial help by building homes for the displaced families and counseling victims most especially the children who have lost their homes and loved ones.
How can you support our efforts? The Committee of the Philippines–Luxembourg Society would be delighted to welcome you as a member or a corporate member. You can be assured that most of your yearly membership contribution goes directly to charities in the Philippines.
The Committee will also be deeply grateful for any donation received on its account at the Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat Luxembourg LU83 0019 3655 5913 8000.
Each donation is by itself essential to the success of the charities to which the Philippines–Luxembourg Society is dedicated.
