Two months ago the Valletta 2018 Foundation organizers had conceived the idea of a street kitchen or an I-Ikla t-Tajba as part of the Valletta 2018 Year of Culture celebration.
They got in touch with the FIL-COM president, Ms. Veronica Cadag-Ugates to ask for possible candidates for 10 sessions training program under Chef David Darmanin in time to be able to present new and unique cooking during the Notte Bianca on the 4
th of October 2014.
Considering time constraints and many other factors that affect the life of an OFW in Malta, the two people who immediately came to mind were the two beauteous ladies, both married to Maltese nationals, Ruzzel Faure and Nadeen Viloria-Shaw. And it was a most providential choice. Both ladies garnered the first, by Nadeen, and second, by Ruzzel, best sellers of the menus that they have conjured-up.
Perhaps Nadeen has to face the greater challenge because her husband is himself a chef, and he is her inspiration while Ruzzel has to impress a husband who appreciates the good things in life, being an antique clocks dealer.
Nadeen has a 6-year old son and she loves experimenting with new dishes to tempt her love ones appetites. She has a very positive outlook in life and loves cooking for family and friends.
Ruzzel on the other hand has a very pretty 2-year old daughter who enjoys her mama’s home cooking but loves to go out and you will find them most always together at home or just getting around Malta browsing in shops or enjoying the beautiful view in the surrounding area.
They both proved to be the best choices the Filipino community could have offered.
This is the group of different nationalities but only 2 Asians , specifically Filipinos, who were able to make it after 10 consecutive sessions of gruelling hard work under the very exacting Chef David Darmanin, a very well-known figure of haute cuisine in Malta
