PHL CRISIS MANAGEMENT TEAMS DISTRIBUTE RELIEF GOODS TO FILIPINOS IN NEPAL

11 May 2015 - Two Crisis Management Teams (CMT) of the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi distributed relief goods to 90 Filipino families at the compound of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Kathmandu today.

CMT-2, composed of Chargé d’Affaires Maria Agnes Cervantes and Ms. Jeanette Ramos, Attaché, arrived early this morning with additional items, which included water purification tablets, to support the relief effort.  CMT-1 On-scene commander, Consul Fernando V. Beup, Jr, supervised the distribution.

The items included rice, noodles, cheese and much needed bottled water. Blankets, medicines and several tarpaulins were also handed out. Another Nepali NGO also contributed bottled water and medicine.

Kababayans in the Philippines who have not heard from their relatives in Nepal are invited to leave the name, address and contact details of the missing individuals on the Facebook Information Page of the Embassy. The Embassy will do its utmost to contact them.

Families in the Philippines may also contact the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) through 0917-5693073 or (02) 871-4503 to inquire about their relatives in Nepal or to provide information as to their relatives’ status and whereabouts.

PHL EMBASSY IN NEW DELHI CRISIS MANAGEMENT TEAM REASSURES FILIPINOS IN NEPAL

11 May 2015 – The Crisis Management Team (CMT) of the Embassy of the Philippines in New Delhi has been making door-to-door visits to Filipinos residing in Kathmandu.

CMT On-scene Commander Second Secretary and Consul Fernando V. Beup, Jr. relayed that the closeness of the Filipino community in Nepal continues to provide valuable support in their activities to verify the safe status of Filipino nationals in Nepal.

Consul Beup also commented that life was slowly returning to normal in Kathmandu.  Movement of people within the city had been steadily increasing with the return of electricity, water, communication and transport services.

An information desk was open until May 01 at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu in cooperation with the Philippine Honorary Consulate General, Mr. Suraj Vaidya.

Proof of Filipino resilience is the story of five-year old Althea Gurung.  Althea was born of a Nepalese father and a Filipina mother who are now separated. Upon hearing news of the earthquake in Nepal, Althea’s mother, Reyleen, who works at a bakeshop in Dubai, immediately requested the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi to check up on her daughter.  Althea lives at a boarding house and studies at Elim Montessori at Bishal Nagar, Kathmandu. The Embassy’s Crisis Management Team ascertained Althea’s safety and communicated this to her mother.

The Embassy appreciates the continued and swift cooperation of the Filipino community leaders in Nepal for their invaluable assistance during times of crisis.

PHL EMBASSY RECEIVES DONATION FROM FILCOM-NEW DELHI FOR FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN NEPAL

11 May 2015 - The Philippine Embassy received on April 30 a donation of medicines, 10 tarpaulins and 10 blankets from the leaders of New Delhi’s Filipinos in India Community (FIC-NCR). Leaders of FIC-NCR, Ms. Fatima Sharma, Paz Marquez and Alma Ferrer, turned over the donations and expressed their sympathy for fellow Filipinos in Nepal who suffered damage to their property or loss of their homes.

The donated goods were brought by the Embassy’s second Crisis Management Team (CMT-2) to Kathmandu on May 01. CMT-2 also brought  goods and medicines to Kathmandu from the Philippine government, which will be useful for Filipinos currently experiencing difficulties brought about by the recent earthquake.
