FACC's (Filipino Americans of Carroll County-Maryland) held its Induction Ball last October 28.
This once in three years grand event is a gathering of FACC families and friends to wish the new set of officers a productive and fun-filled three years of their reign promoting Philippine culture and goodwill in their community and the surrounding areas, while participating in charitable projects to help fellow Filipinos in the U.S. and the Philippines.
A nonprofit organization, the FACC was co-founded in 2002 by three Filipinos who lived and worked in Carroll County. Most activities and projects are very family-centered, with the support and help of the community's businesses, churches, and schools. Some projects are - sending balikbayan boxes of school supplies to some needy schools in the rural areas of the Philippines, and the Adopt-a-Road spring and fall clean up. We also provide monetary assistance to missionaries in the Philippines, to those devastated by typhoons, and the annual picnic's 50/50 raffle goes to a lucky college student of an FACC family.
FACC will soon be very busy rehearsing their Christmas songs for their two weekends of December Caroling, to raise funds for their projects. We go around the county singing carols to the friends and supporters of FACC who have responded favorably to the letters that we send out ahead of time.
We basically sing and entertain in or at the door of friends' homes and businesses who generously reward us year after year, and if we're really good and lucky, we get invited in for some hot chocolate and merienda!
