Ethnic Radyo Pilipino Incorporated (ERPI) has successfully launched another evening affair the 150 Members and their guests will fondly remember. The dinner-dance otherwise named “Spring Ball” was held on 9 September 2017 at the Stamford Grand Hotel in Glenelg near the beach. Everyone was so pleased to have come.
As the only fund-raiser for the year, all proceeds raised at the Spring Ball were earmarked by RADYO PILIPINO for meeting its financial obligations in 2018, including broadcast airtime charges, training of new recruit broadcasters, replenishment of supplies and equipment, repair and an upgrade of radio broadcasting paraphernalia, and the like.
Stamford Grand has pleasant amenities and polite staff. Everyone was served drinks on arrival.
Radyo Pilipino President, Celia Guillermo and fellow officers and volunteers cordially received and ushered guests and friends to their allocated tables and seats inside the ballroom. Ladies came in their best evening gowns, men in coat-and-tie or the traditional
barong Tagalog. Guests exchanged pleasantries until the doors opened to allow everyone in.
The floor space inside the ballroom allowed guests to move freely between dining tables. There was provision of a little stage in the corner for the disc jockey Edgar Regis Watson and a spacious dance floor area in front to boot. There was an exquisite variety of food presented at the buffet table and the variety of desserts won praises from people with discerning tastes.
Entertainment included well-polished dance numbers that were masterfully choreographed for the evening event by Rommel Olson, a Filipino professional ballroom dance instructor from Manila. Smooth, elegant and rhythmic execution of dance steps by dancers mesmerized the audience. Costumes were designed suitably for each dance number.
Each dance was initially performed with a short piece of Philippine folkdance thus creatively presenting
Foxtrot/Carinosa,
Singkil/Argentine Tango,
rumba, and a group
waltz. The pairs were Celia Guillermo and Rommel Olson, Violie Leslie and Roger Domingo, Juanita Lacar Portman and Michael Portman, Lou Blinco and Ben Hur Winter, Corina Van Elsen and Josh Stewart, Jam Flores and Kevin Diluvio. Raffle winning tickets were drawn up during the course of social dancing. The entire event drew to a close at midnight.
Ethnic Radyo Pilipino Incorporated gratefully acknowledged its main sponsors JNR Forwarders, Turner Freeman Lawyers, and Honore’s House.
RADYO PILIPINO Executive Committee includes: President Celia Guillermo; Vice President Violie Leslie; Secretary Juanita Lacar Portman; Treasurer Miriam Cocking; Executive Members Rosita Howland, Luzcel Camacho and Ester Wenzel.
