“The multicultural council is a valuable link between Canadians and children around the world. We are so excited to share this golf tournament with our multicultural partners and friends while raising awareness and support for communities to handle disasters,” says Joe Daniel, Co-Chair of the Multicultural Council and former Member of Parliament for Don Valley East.
Brooke Henderson to compete in tournament
Canadian LPGA star and 2015 Canadian Press Female Athlete of the Year Brooke Henderson will be featured at the tournament. Brooke is the second youngest player in LPGA history to win a major championship, with her victory last year at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
“We are so excited that Brooke is going to lead a golf clinic and play with select teams. She is a fantastic talent and we’re honoured that she will be engaging with us for the tournament,” says Janice Moro, Philanthropy Director at World Vision.
Net proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards helping communities become prepared for natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis and typhoons. Through corporate sponsorships and individual donations, the MCAs are hoping to raise $50,000 for World Vision’s Emergency Preparedness programs, an essential component of the work being done in many of the countries represented in the council.
“Through World Vision’s disaster-preparedness work, we empower community members to anticipate and prepare for future emergencies, to save more lives and minimize adverse impact. Due to our long-term development work, World Vision is often the first to respond with life-saving emergency aid. We also help families recover and rebuild long-term,” says Lindsay Gladding, Director, Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs.
Sponsorship opportunities still exist; more information is available at worldvision.ca/golf.
