DURHAM CROSSOVER COMES HOME WITH PRIDE

By Li ERON
Ontario-Canada
March 24, 2016

As we remember, DURHAM Crossover went home to Philippines to compete at SM NBTC HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS at Mall of Asia last March 13-17, 2016 with Coach Mike Cruz, parents and members of his team.

The support of the community was great and tremendous. DURHAM Crossover players grew up here in Canada. Their trip to the Philippines is not just about playing basketball. It was also about knowing their parental ancestry.

Coach Mike Cruz was updating me with their happenings in the Philippines; their wins and losses.

Here are the details:
• Out of 12 teams with Division 1 Durham Crossover placed 5th.
• First Runner up with NBTC 3 on 3- Team members were Andre Cruz, Alvin Florido, Rob Ocampo and Matthew Oligane.
• Three of DURHAM CROSSOVER players made it to the All Start Game,
namely; James Canlas, Matthew Daves and Phaul Peralta.
• Matthew Daves was a finalist for the NBTC Slam Dunk Contest. Paul Peralta participated in the skills challenge but lost in the first round.

Following players has gotten interest from Coaches in the Philippines;
• James Canlas
• Rob Ocampi
• Avan Nava
• Evyn Santiago

Games Results:
PCC 80 all exhibition game

Jose Rizal University Mens Team B 91-74 win

San Beda College Mens Team B lost by 7

Mapua Mens Team A lost by 11

De Lasalle Greenhills won by 11

Chang Kai Shek lost by 2 60-62

Won against Iloilo 104-70

With 3 on 3, Durham Crossover beat Zamboanga, Bacolod, Mandaue, and Thailand but lost to Davao in the Finals.

DURHAM CROSSOVER is now back in Canada with so much to look forward to. They may not have made it to the Finals but the many experiences and lessons learned are precious. They actually never lose. They definitely leave a mark at the SM NBTC
CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS which will pave the way to so many opportunities for these youth. We will always remain supportive them in their future endeavours.
