KULINARYA QATAR HOLDS INAUGURAL EVENT WITH FILIPINO COMMUNITY FAMILY DAY
01 October 2015 - As its inaugural event under the newly-launched Kulinarya Qatar, the Philippine Embassy in Doha, in cooperation with Filipino community partners, successfully held the Filipino Community Family Day event at Al-Jawhara Hall of the Intercontinental Doha - The City from September 23 to 26.
The enormous success of the Eid’l Fitr Filipino Food Festival last July inspired the Embassy to pursue this follow-up activity which coincided with the Eid’l Adha celebration, an important Islamic holiday. The four-day celebration was attended by 27,000 people, more than the 20,000 reported during the Eid’l Fitr Filipino Food Festival.
Around 22 Filipino food and non-food establishments participated. Cultural presentations were also held boasting the variety of Filipino talents.
“This event is a holistic cultural experience for all our guests, from the overseas Filipinos in Qatar who miss their respective hometowns very much to the Qatari and expatriate who have never heard of the Philippines. This gathering offers not just delicious Filipino cuisine that is slowly making its mark in the international scene, but also all the best that Philippines has to offer,” Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos said.
The Embassy took this opportunity to make its services accessible to the public by setting up booths for overseas voters registration, Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG and Philippine Overseas Labor Office and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) concerns. The overseas voters registration team was able to process 251 new registrants, 10 requests for transfers, and four requests for reactivation during the event.
