Paris? A new host country? a new language? work visa? long term stay? jobs? No answers, but some 700 migrants flew to Paris on a tourist visa.
Without ‘papers,’ they had a hard life, TNT, tago ng tago, running away from police, hiding like rats in a sewer, living 2 to 5 people living in a small attic maid’s room at the top of luxury apartment buildings.
“Anong address mo? Avenue Foch?”
“Oo, maid’s room sa 8th floor.”
Ellen Ortega Apilado and husband Romy started that way, but being business minded, they eventually sold candies in street stalls, then from a small panel truck. And after saving over the years, they opened a small travel agency. Filipino ingenuity!
A few years ago, Ellen was closing her little travel agency in Paris when a druggee suddenly dashed in to rob the office. Appalled and panicky, she resisted, and he knifed her to death.
Today, Sunday August 23, is Ellen’s birthday. Romy and their boy, now a young man, must be very happy for her.
I know now she is a real angel, and I ask her help to protect all our young people from evil doers of any kind.
Gud morning Ellen, I know you're up there watching us. I wish you a happy birthday and want you to know that we here are all thinking beautiful thoughts of you. Please do your best to protect our fragile friends here and keep them from trouble, watch over all of them, especially the weakest, and ward them from dangers and wicked people!!! We love you so much and miss you dearly! But up there, you can do a better job!!! Protect our young people please!!!! especially from those who mistake institutional good for the right thing and make errors in their decisions to help young orphans and abandoned children.
Atsaka, Angel Ellen, salamat, salamat sa lahat ng kagandahang ginawa mo para sa akin! At sa aking maganak.
