THORNCLIFFE/ OVERLEA BABY BOOMERS CLUB IN ACTION

By Susan Llanera
East York, ON-Canada
August 19, 2015

The Thorncliffe/ Overlea Baby Boomers Club of  East York, Toronto has something to be grateful for this summer. The newly organized social club gathered its members and the vulnerable Seniors, tenants and neighbours of  #12 Seniors building to a sizzling summer barbeque and dinner-dance event which was held at the Overlea Recreation Hall on Saturday, August 15th.

A huge support from the Guest Speaker, Jon Burnside, Toronto Councillor Ward 26 – Don Valley West riding, and his staff made this event a tremendous success. Councillor Burnside hosted and provided the spread of barbequed burgers. Burnside's staff grilled and served the guests with sumptuous chicken, beef, veggie burgers, coleslaw & potato salads and bottled water. The members of  T/O Baby Boomers prepared a sweet table full of cakes, pastry desserts and Filipino delicacies which everyone enjoyed with “gusto”.

A “Western” style-themed occasion, most attendees paraded their tailored jeans, cowboy boots & hats. Later, the dance floor was packed with everyone who kicked off their heels and may have lost several pounds from the non-stop dancing and tapping off their boots to the beat and sounds of the country music provided by DJ Carlos. The joyful night with the cooperation of a beautiful summer-breeze weather, the party ended with a big bang. A night to remember, everyone left with a smile on their faces and their hands filled with a loot bag.

The members of  Thorncliffe/ Overlea Baby Boomers Club with Christina Guasch Luta, as the coordinator of the summer barbeque and dinner-dance event were grateful for the support of the entire Thorncliffe neighbourhood and most especially from our very own Councillor, Jon Burnside for gracing the memorable and successful event.
