On early Friday morning at 8 o’clock on June 19th, the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto unveiled a photo exhibit in honor of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, featuring rarely seen photos of the national hero as part of Independence Day celebrations.
The project was launched to enable Filipino Canadians to reconnect with their roots by having historic photos accessible on display for them to view at the consulate during regular hours.
Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero hosted the event and Consul Bolivar Bao led a talk telling the stories behind the photos on exhibit, which showed the other sides of Jose Rizal growing up and spending time casually with friends and loved ones.
Also in attendance were the Knights of Rizal, some of whom flew all the way from the Philippines specifically for this event. After the formal presentation, guests were generously treated to a traditional Filipino breakfast buffet.
