POLO-Jeddah, hiniling sa POEA na makipag-pulong sa mga recruiter ng OFW sa Najran

POLO-Jeddah, hiniling sa POEA na makipag-pulong sa mga recruiter ng OFW sa Najran dahil sa patuloy na kaguluhan na nangyayari sa Saudi-Yemen border.

Inatasan kahapon ni Kalihim Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz ng Paggawa at Panghanap-buhay si Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration na makipag-pulong sa lisensiyadong Philippine recruitment agencies (PRAs) na nagpapadala ng mga manggagawa sa Najran City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, upang ipaalam sa kanila ang kasalukuyang sitwasyon sa nasabing lugar at magsagawa ng karagdagang safety measure dahil sa muling pag-atake ng mga rebeldeng Yemeni Houthi sa southwestern Arabian region.

“Iniulat ni Labor Attache Jainal ‘Jun’ Rasul ang muling pagsiklab ng cross-border shelling kung saan tinamaan ang mga military establishment at ilang residential areas.  Tinamaan ng mortar shell ang isang staff accommodation ng Hyatt Hotel na sa kabutihang-palad ay bahagyang nasaktan lamang ang apat na Pilpino na ngayon ay ligtas na,” ani Baldoz.

“Hiniling ni Labor Attache Rasul sa POEA na makipag-pulong kasama ang mga PRAs na nagpapadala ng mga OFW sa Najran upang ipaalam sa kanila ang sitwasyon doon at magkaroon ng koordinasyon sa kanilang foreign counterpart para sa aksiyon na kailangan nilang gawin upang tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng kanilang manggagawa doon,”dagdag niya.

Sinabi ni Labor Attache Rasul na agad siyang nagpadala ng team, na binubuo ng tatlong POLO staff, nang matanggap niya ang ulat na may kaguluhang nangyayari sa cross-border sa Najran City, upang tulungan ang mga OFW sa nasabing siyudad.

Iniulat ng team na nagsara ang ilang establisyamento na malapit sa border, at karamihan sa mga Pilipino ay humiling ng tulong sa Philippine Consulate sa Jeddah para sa posibleng relokasyon sa ligtas na lugar.

Ang Najran ay may layong 900 kilometro sa bahaging timog ng Jeddah, o 12-oras na biyahe.  Sinabi ni Rasul na may 2,000 OFW sa siyudad.  “Mahigit kalahati sa kanila ay nagtatrabaho sa ospital.  Sa taya ng Ministry of Health ng Najran, may 711 na OFW ang nagtatrabaho bilang staff sa pitong ospital ng MOH, at may 306 nars at medical staff ang nagtatrabaho sa Armed Forces Hospital.  Ang ibang nars ay nagtatrabaho sa mga pribadong ospital at klinik sa siyudad.  Ang iba pang OFW ay nasa construction, services, maintenance, at iba pang sektor,”  ani Rasul.

Sinabi niya na may OFW din na nagtatrabaho sa siyam na government-owned establishments, kasama na ang Saudi Customs at Saudi Electricity Co., sa Najran,  samantalang may mga Pilipino ding nagtatrabaho sa 74 pribadong business establishments.
