The Hague - The Manila Chamber Singers (MCS), an internationally acclaimed chamber choir, once again, showcased their dynamic musical talents last Saturday 23, 2015 during their “Spring Concert” held at St. Anthony Abbot Church in The Hague. The MCS inspired awe and enticed the audience at the first concert of its homecoming visit in the Netherlands.
The concert was graced by His Excellency Ambassador Jaime Victor Ledda together with his wife and the embassy staff. The Manila Chamber Singers, conducted by William Lloyd Cordero, performed a number of songs, in different genres and different styles. The audience of nearly 300 sat charmed and transfixed by the choir’s performance of well-selected repertoire from standard international choral songs to Filipino traditional, folk and popular songs.
The choir took the stage and left the audience in complete awe, when they started singing glorious performance of the songs “C’est fini la Comedie”, “Song of Praise”, “Oratio Sancti di Francisci”, “Tota Pulchra Es”, among others and brought them to dance and clap along with the fast-beat and dancy numbers of “Everytime I Feel the Spirit” , “Sing a Song of Sixpence” and “Man in the Mirror”. Nothing can make the Filipino audience delighted and thrilled but by the sound of popular folk songs with “Paruparong Bukid” and “Rosas Pandan”.
The evening concert went on with people all mesmerized with brilliantly sung numbers - “For Good”, “What a wonderful World” and “For the First Time”. Their repertoire’s high-pitched notes blended exceptionally well with the singers’ mellow, dynamic and deep voice.
MCS, which has gained international acclaim in several international choral competitions and festivals, is on their 4th European Concert Tour scheduled from May 22, 2015 to July 2, 2015. They will represent the Philippines in choral festivals, as well as perform in concerts for Filipinos and local audiences in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France.
In 2011 they had the privilege of performing for the fellow Filipinos and international audience in Rotterdam. MCS was founded in 1999 by alumni of the University of the Philippines Manila and has gained popularity over the years.
