PHL CONSULATE GENERAL IN HONG KONG BOOSTS AWARENESS ON TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS
06 May 2015 - As a follow up to the Echo Training on Anti-Trafficking in Persons for Philippine Consulate General personnel held last February 26, Senior Special Prosecutor Lilian Doris S. Alejo of the Department of Justice visited Hong Kong SAR from May 01 to 04.
Senior Special Prosecutor Alejo gave a presentation on the international and Philippine laws governing Trafficking in Persons (TIP), rights of TIP victims, the Philippine Government’s actions against TIP, and the role of Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).
The highlights of the visit were the following:
· Consultation with service providers for the Filipino community in Hong Kong on TIP issues; and
· Echo Training on Anti-TIP for more than 100 Filipino community leaders.
During the Echo Training, the Philippine Consulate General also informed the participants on the role of Foreign Service Posts in combatting TIP, as well as the Hong Kong Government’s initiatives to address TIP issues.
Assistant Labor Attaché Ma. Nena German and Social Welfare Attaché, Ms. Elizabeth Dy, presented the plans and programs of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD), respectively, for TIP victims, especially for their return to and reintegration in the Philippines.
Ms. Edelyn Vallo shared the role of the International Social Service in Hong Kong (ISS-HK) in providing assistance to trafficking victims.
