Filipino Canadian Alumni Group Awards Scholarship Grant

The Featineans Association of Toronto ( TFAT), a 30- year old alumni - based organization in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario has recently announced that it has awarded a one-year financial grant to a Filipino female university student. TFAT's scholarship program, initiated in 1999 as part of its major outreach project, has already supported more than a dozen qualified and deserving college students at FEATI University in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Philippines.

The awardee is Ms. Jharie Marie T. Soriano who is currently pursuing her 5th year in the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering program at FEATI University. J.M. Soriano has satisfactorily met the academic grades, family income threshold, and interview requirements as set forth in the existing TFAT - FEATI University scholarship protocol and procedure. She received a Grade Point Average of under 1.90 in her degree courses.

Proudly, J.M. Soriano who is in the University Dean's List and a University President scholar has plans to achieve her goals of completing her degree program and to pass & top the aeronautical engineering board examinations. She shared also her aspiration to become a pilot. Born in San Miguel, Bulacan, she and her brother are being solidly guided by their very supportive single parent.  

The successful grantee was selected by a 3-person University panel composed of Ms. Mercedes Duterte( chair), Dr. Dorisday Revilleza and Engr. Enrique Macaspac. Ms. Melanie P. Florentino, head of the University Alumni Affairs & Corporate Alliances and Ms. Mary Grace O. Chua, OIC of Student Assistance Services provided excellent assistance in the selection and endorsement process.

Mr. Edgar Baruela, the current president of TFAT, together with former head honcho Mr.Oliver Rey and the current directors & officers, after collaborative consultations, have readily accepted the choice & recommendation. The TFAT financial assistance, as usual, has been released to the beneficiary via university channels.

The Canada-based, not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization of alumni and former students, staff and employees of the "technological university by the Pasig River", also has institutionalized an "Annual Academic Recognition Awards" project. It continues to support the academic programs of their alma mater on a determined and sustainable engagements.( Tony A. San Juan, Class 1963)
