Crossover Sports Canada dominates inaugural Smart City Hoops Challenge Cup

Smart City Hoops recently held a successful Challenge Cup Basketball Tournament at the Greenhills West Gym in San Juan City Philippines last March 15-17, 2019. This weekend tournament was organized by Mr. Homer Bautista and supported by Smart. In participation includes Canada, New Zealand and champion teams from Smart City Hoops Manila and Calabarzon.

Crossover Canada 18U Fearsome Five - Ocampo, Samonte,Garcia, Diaz and Faraon


Crossover Sports Canada dominated the tournament by winning the 18U and 16U divisions. Coach Rod Garcia guided the 18U by sweeping the elimination beating LPU Calamba and New Zealand and repeated against New Zealand at the finals. Mainstay Denzel Faraon, Jason Diaz, Josh Samonte, Brendon Ocampo and Tyler Garcia took turns to turn back New Zealand’s challenge.

 

Not to be outdone was the 16U under Coach Si who escaped Xavier School at the overtime with heroics of Martin Zarsuela who tied the game on a 3 pt. hail Mary at the buzzer during regulation and La Salle Cavite.

 

At the finals Canada won handily over Xavier School with steady plays from Martin Zarzuela, Justine Francisco, Alex Chan, James Abadia and sniper Jerone Castronuevo. Crossover Canada 14U lost to UST at the finals while the 12U went home with lots of learning experience after falling close to La Salle Greenhills and La Salle Cavite respectively at the eliminations.

Finals Game Schedule
                     Smart City Hoops Challenge Cup is expected to be bigger this July 2019 with possible addition of teams from US, Australia, Vancouver, Guam, Saipan and Italy. International teams from South East Asia Malaysia and Indonesia are also looking to participate.
