ECC-NSW in solidarity with Christchurch NZ

The Ethnic Communities Council of NSW’s members and stakeholders held a special meeting on the 20th of March showing a strong message to the community and to the people of Christchurch that it stands united with the people of New Zealand.

 The ECCNSW members and guests discussed the horrific terrorist attack that recently took place in New Zealand and identified ways the communities can remain in solidarity with all Australians, to minimise any reprisals or copycats.The ECCNSW members were joined by special guests that include Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism the Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP, the CEO of Multicultural NSW Mr Joseph La Posta and candidate for the NSW Upper House Ms Pallavi Sinha, and many spiritual leaders from across NSW who all signed the official condolence list and lighting of the harmony candle in memory of those who were killed in the attack of two Christchurch mosque.

ECC Chairperson Marta Terraciano, said: “It is sad to hear the news of our brothers and sisters in Christchurch, as we in NSW were preparing to celebrate Harmony Day. It is times like this that our communities should show their strength, resilience and support for one another and stand united regardless of our different languages, faith or cultures. This is truly where humanity shines”.
