ED NOCHE GRABS PAL KALAYAAN CUP

Ed Noche from Woodcroft, New South Wales and a member of Metro Social Golf club won the 23rd PAL Kalayaan cup golf tournament held at the prestigious Macquarie Links International Golf Club on June 11, 2018, to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence.  He scored unbeatable 48 points under the stableford scoring system using his social handicap of 36.

The 118 golfers who participated in the 23rd PAL Kalayaan cup golf tournament to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence before their shot gun tee-off at Macquarie Links International Golf club.

 
He was awarded with the crystal glass championship trophy, economy class return airfare to Manila courtesy of Philippine Airlines and the privilege to engrave his name in the perpetual trophy. “Happy to be part of the organising committee and most important is to have participated in the celebration and commemoration of Philippine Independence through sports. Winning is just a reward and a bonus” said Ed Noche with pride.

Division winners were: Bertino Hazali for A with score of 37 stableford points using his AGU handicap of 10; Carlos Quintana for B with score of 46 points using his handicap of 27 with Tee-reffic Berdies/Puro Golf club; Jun Nicolas for C with score of 40 points using his handicap of 36 with Sydney Jokers Social golf club and Fidelis Badelles for Ladies with score of 33 points using her handicap of 26 from Sydney Metro Social golf club. These division winners received $300 cash prize, crystal glass trophies and box of golf balls for their exceptional efforts.

Division runners up were: Anthony Ramos for A with score of 34 points using his AGU handicap of 19 (via count back with Johnny KCR); Nelson Catig for B with score of 42 points using his handicap of 21 with Sydney Metro Social golf club; Serge Jumonong for C with score of 38 points using his handicap of 36 with Tee-reffic Berdies/Puro golf club and Ellen Sioco for Ladies with score of 31 points using her handicap of 39 with Sydney Metro Social golf club. These division runners up winners received $150 cash prize, crystal glass trophies and box of golf balls.
 
Novelty prize winners of $20 each in Divisions A, B & C for all holes of either longest drive, nearest the pins and best drive & pitch were also awarded.

Before the awards presentation, Bob Leones, the new chairman of the Kalayaan Organising Committee welcomed all the participants and acknowledged the presence and support of various social golf clubs and groups. Namely, the Sydney Metro Social Golf club (Vangie Leones), Tee-reffic Berdies/Puro Golf Club (Toto Quintana), Golf ParE Social Club (Alex Cruz), Pogi Golf (Noel Santos), Thai Golf Association (Sutti Sutontanyakorn), Indonesian Golf Club (Tony Wijaya), Sydney Jokers (Carlos Perez), Fairgolf Social golf club (Cris Bacucang), Sydney Eagles, NSW Golf club and visitors from other clubs. He also acknowledged the valuable support of all sponsors namely Philippine Airlines, Philippine Department of Tourism, R.O. Biala, Myrons’ Stars, Property Investors Alliance and the hole sponsors. Certificate of appreciations were presented to Philippine Airlines (17 years) and R.O. Biala (15 years) for their long and continued support to the annual PAL Kalayaan cup golf tournament.

Special plaque and certificate of appreciation and thanks were also presented to Ric de Vera for his vigorous and dedicated service as chairman of Kalayaan Organising Committee for the past 17 years. Finally, Bob Leones introduced the Honourable Consul General Maria Teresa L. Taguiang.

In her message, the new Philippine Consul General Maria Teresa L. Taguiang congratulated the Kalayaan Organising Committee headed by Bob Leones for job well done in successfully organising the 23rd PAL Kalayaan cup golf tournament. She also mentioned the current theme of Kalayaan 2018 which is “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan”. She congratulated the winners and wished all the participants to come back again next year. Finally, she praised the Kalayaan Organising Committee and wished them more success in the future.
 
On his part, the PAL country manager Ian Robinson expressed his appreciation to the Kalayaan Organising Committee for the successful holding of the golf tournament which everyone enjoyed, including himself. He indicated his desire for PAL to continue this tradition which was started some seventeen years ago as the holder of naming rights. He mentioned that in the 77th years of PAL and over 50 years in Sydney, it has grown to more Australian networks, i.e. Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin & Sydney. “Next month we are launching the Airbus A321-neo on the Brisbane route. One of PAL’s objectives is to continue to work with the Filipino-Australian communities in maintaining a connection for family and loved ones in the Philippines, and we look forward to welcoming you aboard a PAL flight soon”. He finally said.

The Kalayaan Organising Committee which was formed in early 2016 has the responsibility of organising, promoting and maintaining the annual PAL Kalayaan Cup golf tournament in conjunction with the celebration of the proclamation of Philippine Independence. All members are volunteers and are assigned in different tasks. In May 2018 the committee was incorporated into Kalayaan, Inc.
