Dubbed as “Liga Mo Kabayan,” the 1st TFC KINGDOM CUP Basketball Tournament 2012 will be the first-ever televised basketball tournament in the Kingdom, not even conducted in any part of the world where there is TFC. This was made possible through the brilliant mind and efforts of AF Maribel Hernaez, Regional Marketing Head of ABS-CBN TFC Dubai with the assistance of Jo Lipa, a long-time Coach of Ateneo Blue Eagles and currently the Commissioner of NCAA, who is also the Kingdom Cup Commissioner Consultant.
During previous meetings held in Riyadh on April this year, FAPS was on top priority to become TFC’s Production Partner in Riyadh. It was in early July when AF Maribel Hernaez confirmed FAPS as its Official Production Partner wherein FAPS President, Charlotte L. Villones was also named Regional Secretariat. Completing the members of the Organizing Committee were Alan Opida, TFC Area Representative Riyadh, Robert Barretto, Tournament Commissioner Riyadh, Filipino Confederation of Basketball Referee (FCBR), Technical Committee and Marlon B. Vicente as Secretariat Member.
Battling in the hard court to be Riyadh’s bet that will go neck-to-neck against Jeddah and Dammam Selections are
Riyadh FAPS Stars and
Riyadh FAPS Blazers. Starting on September 7, witness the “Best of 3” battles of Riyadh All-Star Players if not, catch them on the delayed telecast on TFC BRO Channel or TFC.tv, the official online service.
FAPS, being one of the active community organizations in the Kingdom today has already proven its worth in catering various programs and events for the Filipino Community in Riyadh. The Society has already conducted tournaments both for badminton and basketball. It also launched its FAPS Talent Center where Voice Coaching was conducted and concluded the first-ever Recital on April this year. With these tremendous achievements, FAPS only shows its commitment in serving the interest of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom.
Other regions who will conduct the same league also tapped by TFC were Filipino Basketball Association (FBA) and Filsama Basketball League (FBL) of Jeddah and Filipino International Basketball Association (FIBA) and United Filipino Basketball Federation (UFBF) of Dammam.
Don’t miss this rare chance of witnessing Riyadh’s Best-of-the-Best as the 1
st TFC KINGDOM CUP televised basketball tournament is finally happening on September 7, 2012, 7:00PM at Zahid Tractor Basketball Court. (Marlon B. Vicente, an OFW based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. E-mail at )
