PHL EMBASSY IN ROME, FILIPINO COMMUNITY COMMEMORATE BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF ANDRES BONIFACIO
01 December 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Rome and the members of the Filipino community at its consular/Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) section commemorated the 151st Birth Anniversary of hero Andres Bonifacio on November 27.
The commemoration of Bonifacio’s birth anniversary commenced with the singing of
Lupang Hinirang.
The Embassy officers and staff, and Filipino community members shared a simple
salu-salo after the program.
The Filipino community, who are usually occupied with their daily lives, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to commemorate the Supremo of the
Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (Katipunan).
MISS PHILIPPINES-ITALY REGISTERS AS OVERSEAS VOTER IN PHL CONSULATE GENERAL
14 November 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Milan reached its 5,000
th registrant since it started overseas voting registration on May 06.
Twenty-seven year-old nursing graduate from the University of Baguio, Rosielyn Damias is a native of Rosales, Pangasinan. Rosielyn has been working in Milan for the past five years as a caregiver and part-time babysitter. To keep her career options open, she will also take up a diploma-course as a dental hygienist next month. Rosielyn still actively pursues her dream to become a registered nurse. She is continuously taking Italian language classes and is reviewing for nursing board exam which she plans to take next year.
Rosielyn believes that “perseverance and determination, especially determination to be somebody, are keys to succeed in life.” When asked if she would still return to the Philippines although she is with her immediate family in Milan, Rosielyn enthusiastically said, “Yes,
kasi iba pa rin ang lupa nating sinilangan.”
Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro stated that Rosielyn can be a role model for Filipinos in Italy whom she can motivate, improve their skills and succeed in life. Rosielyn won the title Miss Philippines-Italy 2010 where she impressed the judges with her positive outlook in life.
The Consulate General continues to vigorously encourage the Filipino communities in Milan and Northern Italy to register for the 2016 national elections. As of November 12, the Consulate General has already registered 5,302 qualified new Filipino voters.
PHL EMBASSY IN ROME BRINGS SERVICES TO FILIPINO COMMUNITIES IN PUGLIA, ITALY
12 November 2014 – Representatives from the Philippine Embassy in Rome traveled to the Puglian capital of Bari to extend consular services and overseas voters registration to Filipino communities in Italy’s easternmost region from November 08 to 09.
The eight-member consular team, headed by Vice Consul Margret Malang, processed 207 passport renewal applications, 73 notarials, 23 reports of birth, eight reports of marriage, eight certificates, and three petitions for dual citizenship.
Labor Attaché Viveca Catalig and Welfare Officer Loreta Vergara of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) also joined the outreach and made themselves available for consultation with Filipinos in the area.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Project Term Personnel Dennis Ricaplaza was able to register 234 new overseas voters and provided information to interested Filipinos on overseas voting and the upcoming 2016 national elections.
